Waipi'o Valley

An interesting side trip was to the lookout, looking out over the Waipi'o Valley.  A spectacular view of the opposing cliff in a horseshoe shaped valley.  This write up, CLICK HERE, says it better than I can.  Suffice to say it was big part of an enjoyable day.  We managed to get to two Farmers Markets, both in Weimea and sampled some of the local crafts, food and coffee (Kona of course).  Took several pictures of Orchids and then made our way through the mid/high lands to Kona for some more shopping.

More pictures here.

We are all getting a warm tan, with many excursions to the beach, we particularly like Hapuna beach;  about a third of a mile long with fine white sand and wonderful shallow waters.  Of course, when not a the beach we make use of the pool just across from our Condo.  Just a gorgeous resort.

Tonight we're having dinner with the owners Johnathan and Natasha, then on to an Hawaiian show.

To soon it is coming to an end as we head back to reality on Thursday.

Around the Big Island literally.

We circumnavigated the Big Island yesterday.  It took us 10 hours including stops for lunch, shopping and sight seeing.  Great day.  The highlight was of course the Hawaii Volcano State Park.  Pictured are two of the sights a steaming caldera within a caldera and a lava tube which we walked through for several hundred yards.  This was at the end.

The terrain, as you go around the island, is suprising varied.  from the desert like conditions on the west side (where we and Kona are) through pine forests in the north to rain forest on the east with some areas down right jungle.  Very interesting. and a great day.

Click on the pictures for a bigger view.

Tonight we have the owners Johnathan and Natasha over for dinner.

Kona, Hawaii

Flight to Kona was straightforward, our Condo is just gorgeous and we have settled right in.  We have done some exploring and mostly shopping, stocking the larder.  Weather is hot and balmy as expected.

Today we met friends of ours that happened to be on a Hawaii Cruise.  We picked them up and visited a Macadamia nut factory (pic left) and then had them back for lunch.  Great couple and we had a lot of laughs catching up with theirs and our cruising adventures.

Tomorrow we're hitting the beach near the Fairmont Orchid resort and Tuesday over to Hilo.

Left to right, Gary, Gail, Joyce (from ship), Johnathan, Carolyn, Michael, Natasha, and Jack (from ship).  Good looking group.

Thanksgiving

We had a lovely Dinner on Sunday with some of the family.  Lyn, Alan, Rachel (with Scott), Adam, Mom, Carolyn, & yours truly.  Having gotten my camera back, after waiting 11 weeks, I took a picture of Mom to try the flash.  She is looking good for an almost 93 years young (Nov).  Carolyn decided to do the dinner here for a change and she did a bang up job.  Turkey and all the traditional stuff was great, gave thanks, and we had a good evening of talk and laughter. That is not difficult with Rachel around, life of the party that girl.

David was with Tena's family, and of course Mike is up North.  Noni was in for Friday and left Saturday to spend Turkey Day with Chelsea and Cole in Vancouver.  Would of been nice to have them all, but alas, most difficult.  Speaking of Mike, he and Charlene just celebrated their 15th wedding anniversay last week.  Didn't seem tht long ago we were at the wedding.

In the meantime I am back on the blog and one of these days I'll do a summary of our cruise and summer.

TTFN, Peace
