Home again

Well we got home Saturday, actually. Trip back was uneventful, except for things falling off the motorhome. On our way up the first day out of Travis the weather was so fine, sunny, etc that we made a run for the Siskiyous Pass. On our way up the pass we heard a metallic crashing type noise that at first I thought was the cooling fan. Once we found a place to pull over, large enough to be well off the road, I found that a 5 ft piece of metal, that acts as a shield between the exhaust and the storage compartments had come off at the front end. The back end was still attached and it was dragging on the road. I was able to get it back in place and tie it up with some strong cord. It was a good thing it didn't come off completely as it could have done some significant damage to the back of the motorhome and/or the tow car.

Anyhow we got into Grants Pass, late that afternoon, and after a couple of calls we were directed to Bridge Street Auto and RV Repair. The next morning we went there and they had it fixed up in no time, reasonable cost and very friendly service; we were on our way by noon. I recommend them to anyone needing service if you are near Grants Pass, Oregon.

The rest of the journey was great. Not much rain, but when we got to the Coho Ferry in Port Angeles at 11:00 am we found it was already full, so we had to wait until the next morning to get the ferry. We had never had any trouble showing up early for the afternoon ferry before. What we didn't take into consideration was this particular Friday was the start of School Break.

So we still got home in good time. Noni was down the same weekend and stayed with us, Lyn dropped by and we caught up with all the family gossip. Yesterday, Joe and Dorothy came to, with Marigold, to visit Mom and they stayed in our club house last night. They took us to Breakfast this morning and are now visiting Mom again, before they catch the ferry back to Vancouver.

Lyn and Rachel were by last night, to drop off more mail and stayed for a nice visit. Rachel told us all about her trip with Scott to Jamaica, plus the fun they had at the airport in Vancouver on departure, when Scott discovered he had the wrong passport. He and his friend had inadvertently switched passports on a previous trip and neither had noticed. It took him a day to sort it out and he joined Rachel a day late in Jamaica. The rest of the trip was much more enjoyable.

Mom is doing fine and happy we were back. I took her out for lunch and a haircut on Tuesday, which she enjoyed, and is enjoying Joe and Dorothy's visit.

I have already managed to get out with Basil and John for golf on Monday, which was actually a nice day, however, it poured last night. We got about 23 mm last night (that's about an inch for those not metrically inclined). So I skipped golf this morning and went breakfast instead.

Idyllwild, St. Patty's, Departure,et al

We had a lovely dinner with Leona and Dennis at the 7 Hills golf course. The restaurant there is open to the public and the food is excellent and very reasonable. Recommended if you are ever in town. Tuesday we went up to Idyllwild. It is a lovely tourist, chalet, artsy town high in the mountains, about 45 minutes from Hemet. Click Here for a website. A must see in the area. It is at 4300 feet and there was evidence of recent snow, but it was a lovely 67 F and sunny on the day we were there.

On St. Patty's day they had us over for corned beef and cabbage and it was the best, leanest most tender corned beef I ever have eaten.

Friday we made our departure and we caught up to Ken and Helen who were kind enough to sign us into Travis Air Force Base. We arrived to wild and wet weather and Helen welcomed us to their warm abode for a fine meal. The wind got quite gusty, so we all pulled in our slides so the slide awnings wouldn't take a beating. It got worse over night but is fine and calm today. The fam camp here is quite nice, even though it is run by a couple who are well "organized" and everyone else will be organized too "or else". You vill follow zee rules. Enough said.

We will be here until at least Tuesday then be heading,,, brrrr,,,,,North. Where is my mackinaw? LOL.

Lyn, David and Noni are together up at Noni's in Comox going through old slides and apparently having a ball doing so. They're looking for all the evidence to embarrass us on our anniversary. No they don't need any help.

Hemet, Temecula, California

Happy Birthday Dennis Coleman.

We arrived in Hemet California on Tuesday and are staying at a the same park as my cousin Leona and her husband Dennis, in fact we are right across the street. Today we celebrated Dennis' birthday by going to a Winery and having lunch with them and their daughter Brenda and her husband Greg. The winery was in Temecula and Brenda and Greg live in Temecula, which is very handy as it is only 20 miles from where Dennis and Leona spend their winters in Hemet. It was a very enjoyable day. That is Dennis on the left, next to Leona, then Carolyn, followed by me in one picture and Greg and Brenda in the other. The winery was very nice and their restaurant excellent.

And Happy Anniversay Sue and Rob. We were out at the Red Lobster with Rob and Sue for their Anniversary. Great seafood meal and and enjoyable evening too. So now Rob and I can catch up with a movie or two, before we leave and head home.
TTFN, Ciao & Peace.
