Blossoms, Thunderbirds, Golf

The weather continues to be sunny and warm, certainly warmer than last year, so, the cacti think it is summer sooner and we are seeing blooms that we don't normally see here this early.  The picture on the left shows a Prickly Pear in bloom.  Very pretty, and there are some pink ones too.

Last week-end I was privileged to accompany Ken to the Luke Air Force Base Air Show.  It was great.  A friend of his son Brian, Phil got us VIP tickets and accompanied us around the show grounds and then into the Thunderbird's VIP tent, where we were able to see the show in comfort, at least relatively speaking.   The winds kicked up quite a lot of dust and we weren't sure that the Thunderbirds would even put on a show.   However, they did as witnessed by the picture on the left.
It was a spectacular show by them as well as several other aircraft, particularly the F22 Raptor.  What a marvellous aircraft, so extremely maneuverable.  It put on a great display.

I met a Canadian who was No. 4 slot on the Thunderbird team.  I met his wife and folks in from Wawanesa, Manitoba.  This put a little home town flavour into the show for me.

Got to golf yet again, and I only report this as I had one of my best rounds on 18 holes.  I broke 90 which I have never done before, yeah!!!  Nice way to end my Arizona golfing for this year.  I am already looking forward to next year.

Tonight is our last night here, so we went out with Ken and Helen for our last burger at IN-N-Out burger, followed by Dairy Queen.  Ah! the life of  connoisseurs.  lol.  Tomorrow we will be back on the road again, headed home.  Mixed feelings, looking forward to getting home yet sorry to be leaving the wonderful weather and friends behind.  We will be back.

C'est la vie.

Ciao and Peace.

Dove chicks, visitors, golf

The Dove (on the fifth wheel hitch) has had her chicks.  We blinked and suddenly we saw chicks nearly as big as she is.  The grow fast down here.

We had Bernadette and Ken drop in for a couple of hours.  They are down visiting his sister in Goodyear ( a western suburb of Phoenix) for a week of golf.  It was nice seeing them.

Last Monday I golf, probably one of my best 18 holes in a long time, I was quite proud of myself, however a couple of games and some time on the driving range has paid off.

Rod and Karen have departed to continue their wanderings, and to send them off we all went out to a local restaurant called the Creative Cafe, for their Italian night, buffet.   It was excellent, the choice was great, and salads wonderful.

The weather has continued great, and it is again getting warmer.  We are looking at 30's C, next week for most of the week.  Close to that for the golf game tomorrow.

The countdown is on,   two weeks and we will be home.  Here is hoping the weather improves there too.

Ciao and Peace.

Dove, movies and Brats

You can see by the photo that Carolyn is enjoying herself, feet up, kick back, relax.  Note the gold tootsies courtesy of a pedicure. (click on the picture to see larger version) HHMMmmm that's the life.

The second picture is of a Dove nesting.  Just so happens to be on one of the neighbours 5th wheel to hitch.  Note the level.  She is quite comfy there and has been there a couple of weeks now.  You can get quite close, she doesn't move, but keeps and eye on you.

We went to see Gran Torina last week, it was quite good, two thumbs up.  The Clint Eastwood is like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going and going.  He does good work.

Today we have just returned from a Brat &  Sauerkraut dinner, put on by the park, or at least some of the people in the park.  It was quite enjoyable.  It was our second park function after the Ribs of a couple of weeks ago and March 17th is the next for St Patty's day.

We continue to exchange pot luck dinner's with the Kirkwoods and Sprauges.  The other night we just had a humungous appy evening and skipped dinner altogether.  Tomorrow Karen is doing Sunday brunch, mmmmmm.

Ken, Rod and I spent some time at the local airport yesterday.  It is their annual Fly-In and we get to see a bunch of older planes.  Some real gems there.  Today they all have been flying around here and we get to see them since we are so close to the airport.

Monday I golf, this is if you want to call it that.  A couple of sessions at the driving range should help,,  it better help.......!

On that note.  Ciao

Yuma and Vancouver Island

This past weekend we headed for Yuma for the weekend, the occasion was 24 Vancouver Islanders meeting at Wayne and Laurel's place on Sunday March 1st. The main event of the day was the celebration of Ken & Josie 60th Wedding Anniversary. Everyone participated in and enjoyed a wonderful Pot Luck meal. The weather was spectacular reaching 91 F in the shade in the patio, of course, that was where the guys were sitting. It was a cooler 81 in the house where the girls were, go figure? We drove down on Saturday and stayed at a Day's Inn, near Yuma Palms Shopping Mall, which Carolyn enjoyed. No Surprise there. We went out to Andy and Kathie's Saturday night and enjoyed a nice visit with them, and also Sandy and Wayne, who are parked on the same lot. We drove back after the party Sunday.

The weather continues very warm, which made for a good golf game at Arizona city. Gerry our PEI friend, along with his brother in law (another Gerry), Bill and I spent a lovely day on the municipal course there. The day was lovely, my golf, however, shows the need for some driving range work, which will occur this week.

TTFN, Ciao and Peace.
