Ooops, Helen reminded me, through a call to Carolyn, that I have been tardy in the Blogging department. Hmmm, so I have. Well truth be told not terribly much has been happening. We planned to go to a Rally up island, and stay for a few extra days to visit Noni and John but alas that didn't happen. Carolyn had taken ill the day before we were to leave. Her tummy was not feeling to well, along with sinusitis, then she had a return of her violent vertigo. So she was out of commission for a few days. She has improved quite a bit since then, despite falling into the closet last night as she bent over to retrieve something. Fortunately there was a big fluffy quilt there for her to fall on.

Mom has been doing great. She really is walking better, and using her arm and hand more. She is even doing her fill-in crosswords with her right hand. She is looking better and her disposition has been great. She called one day and wanted to get out for a burger. The food is great where she is, but it's like after you eaten steak for a while beans taste fine. And she just wanted to get out. She was do for her B-12 shot anyway, so I picked her up and went to Burger King; then to the clinic for the shot, then to Esquimalt Lagoon. She likes it there, it is a mile long beach with lots of driftwood looking out over Victoria, the Straits of Juan de Fuca, and the Olympic Mountains. It is a favourite spot for many. In fact Carolyn and I did that for a picnic lunch a couple of days ago. I then brought her back to the house for supper, one of her favourite meals, perogies and farmer sausage, which of course she doesn't get at her place. Nice day for all of us.

A couple of Friday's ago we joined the Good Sam group for a Friday night out at Sooke Flats campground. We had Ann Eng with us, and as usual we went to Mulligan's Restaurant for dinner. Mulligan's was the Club house for a now-defunct golf course in Sooke. Nice food and service. Known for their Beef Ribs, which nobody had. But the food was excellent non the less.

Ann asked me to fix her laptop. Her daughters were unable to get it working to get pictures for Tony's celebration of life. Fortunately, Tony had backed up all his stuff on an external hard drive. (That's another story). Anyhow, long story short I got it working just like new. At now cost yet. One of the memory modules was fried, but it is working well without it now.

Ann works at a grocery store and she got some over-ripe bananas, and said to herself, I know what I can do with these, Carolyn can make banana bread. So Carolyn has been baking up a storm, making banana bread for everyone. Seems when she gets in the mood she bakes a lot of other stuff at the same time. Its been tasty around here.

Since we didn't get to Comox last week, we have since booked a few days at Tee Pee Park in mid August. That is the campground that we love at the Air Force Base in Comox. We spent many a summer there in the late 70's early 80's when we were there. We be able to visit Noni and John and roam the beach. Hope this weather holds, it has been nothing but sunny and warm for the past two weeks and, in the short term anyway, is staying around.

Well that is enough rambling for me.

Ciao!

Happy Independence Day

We're Home, after a very enjoyable trip. We left Aiyansh and headed to Kamloops, with stops at Fort Telkwa and Quesnel Walmart. We made good time so we got to the Kamploops RV park a day early. Our reservations were for the next day, but the kindly found a spot for us, and we had a day to spruce up the car, Motorhome and ourselves. We stored the MH in their storage compound, and took of to Canmore to visit Carolyn's cousin Janet and her husband George. Their girls Jennifer, Jeanie, and Melissa, were to be in town for the Canada Day Celebration. Well Jennifer and Jared live in Canmore. Jeanie & Jeff came and Melissa & Dylan came in from Calgary. They had room for us all in their unique and beautiful house. Janet and George took us out for dinner the first night at a local restaurant the name of which I already have forgotten, but it had good atmosphere and food. Saturday they had to go to a Wedding, so Jennifer and Jared hosted a wonderful BBQ. During the day the boys and I smacked some golf balls at the Canmore Golf Club and the girls went downtown, touring and shopping. Sunday at the height of the temperature some 30+ C (86 F) George, Jeff, Jared and I went Golfing. Hardly a breeze, it was a tough one, at least on me. Drank tons of water and George and I got a power cart for the last nine. Saved my life it did. A round that normally takes no more that 4 1/2 hours took us 5 1/2 hours. It was slow going for everyone. Heat will do that. In any event I enjoyed the game and course and didn't do to bad considering. We retired to the 19th hole where I relished in their special New York Steak and Prawns which was to die for.
Come Cananda Day the weather turned cloudy, which in a way was good after all the heat. We went down to observe the local parade, which I found quite excellent. It was about an hour long and involved all 3 of the stampede bands, the Shriners, of course, and many varied and interesting floats. Unfortunately we had walked to the parade and right near the end a heavy shower arrived and we got drenched on the trek back to the house. We felt sorry for the last few bands and floats as the valiantly carried on despite the heavy rain. Later in the day things dried up and we had a family BBQ of Hot Dogs and such, following that we trekked down to the Fireworks. That display went very well, a good solid 15 minutes of spectacular fireworks.
On the 2nd we bid our fond farewells and headed back to Kamploops. It was very enjoyable to see them all. Carolyn has had little opportunity to see some of her family outside those in Winnipeg and this visit worked out extremely well.
Unfortunately we were scheduled to be home on the July 3rd, so a quick overnight in Kamloops, and we headed directly to the Ferry and back to Victoria. We had an incident an the way back. Near the Glacier Park border, some apparently distaught women were attempting to wave down traffic, none of those ahead of us stopped, however, we saw that a man was lying on the side of the road so we pulled over. We don't know how he was involved, apparently he had a broken leg; but their main concern was a car/van that went over the concrete barriers and was sitting upside down, about 40 feet down a near vertical drop; it was held there by some trees. They and we could not get any cell phone reception and help was needed quickly. The Rogers Pass center would be the quickest, so we drove until we either got cell reception or reached anyone with a radio or reached the Centre. At the centre (23 km later) we informed the park rangers of the incident, the rangers were dispatched immediately and 911 was contacted. Before we left ambulances had been dispatched. We don't know the result of it all, but hope everything turned out OK. Nothing on the news so maybe there was no loss of life.
We had hoped to spend some time in Vancouver, with sister-in-law C. and neice M., but the length of the trip, heat and appointments at home precluded us stopping. But now we can look forward to another trip.
Happy July 4th to our American Friends. Enjoy the day.
Ciao, & Peace.
