Casa Grande & Weather???

We arrived in Casa Grande early afternoon on Monday after our enjoyable stay in Quartzsite. It was only 175 miles so it was an easy trip. We are set up at Val Vista Winter Village with the Rob and Sue next door. The weather has been cool albeit sunny. Near freezing temperatures at night. We have spent most of the time so far setting up and doing chores, however Rob and I did go to a movie. Rambo, the new one. Not bad actually if you can ignore the blood and gore.

We were going to go to see Juno with the girls,(earn some brownie points), however, Carolyn wasn't up to it, so we will do that another night, maybe this weekend. The girls did a big shopping trip with Helen yesterday, and tonight Helen and Ken joined us 4 for dinner. A very nice evening with the guys swapping war stories and the girls talking about whatever girls talk about.

I've added Tony's health blog to my listing on the right. He is coming along, "on the mend" as he says. Good to see progress being made.

Not many other bloggers out there, not even Miss reliable Prairie Crocus.

Take care all

Quartzsite, Bluebirds & SOB's

We have just spent a great week at Quartzsite. We found the Bluebird circle at Laposa South as advertised. There were about 40 rigs already set up, with more coming. We ended up with about 60 plus a handful of SOB's (Some Other Brand) such as ourselves in our Monarch. The weather held up for us with sunny days and moderately warm temperatures. We had rain one night early on then a downpour overnight and early Sunday. However, the main festivities were over by then. You can see by the picture the sunsets are gorgeous out on the desert.
The pot luck suppers were delicious with so much variety one just couldn't try them all. The Saturday pot luck featured a Chili cookoff; I sure enjoyed that one. There was a silent auction of a dozen or so baskets and paraphenalia, (for charity, of course) and a thousand dollars was raised. Carolyn's bid didn't hold up, but Sue's did and she got a pet basket loaded with stuff that Merlin would like. Carolyn and Sue submitted a basket of crafts and it fetched $85.00; they were pleased.

While all this was going on Rob, who had a generator that wasn't working right spent time fixing the radiator, which was damaged by a pail on the way here. Once he got that fixed, Lucas the resident generator expert fixed the generator with a twist of the wrist. He did an electrical adjustment and "Voila" fixed gennie. And Rob was thinking that he was going to have to put out $2000.00 for major repair. Was Rob happy, Oh yeahhh!

Carolyn and I enjoyed the week and met many new friends and are looking forward to next years rally.

Tomorrow, we head for Casa Grande and Val Vista Winter Village where we will be for the next month.

Fun in the Sun

The week in Yuma has whizzed by. Rob and I went to the Yuma Penitentiary museum. It was interesting. It was open from 1875 to 1906, and has been a museum pretty much the rest of the time. It had a lot of exhibits and artifacts including several of the old cells. Just couldn't imagine 6 inmates confined to 9 X 12 foot cell in 100+ temperatures. We took in a couple of movies as well. National Treasure, with Nicolas Cage (two thumbs down) and The Bucket List with Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, (two thumbs up). We did our traditional trip to Las Alagodones, Mexico. Where we had Shrimp Tacos and did a bit of shopping. Gary got a $3.00 haircut, then we all waited an hour in line at the border to return. Might be our last trip there.

The weather has been sunny, sunny, but cool. It got as low as 34 F or 1 C last Thursday night and the highs are around the mid 60's F or 15 C. Not much wind for the most part so it has been pleasant. Caravan Oasis is not recommended. It has the facilities, but the new part is on dirt, they could at least put down some pea gravel, and very little landscaping, we have seen a couple of resorts nearby that are much better and cheaper.

We met up with Wayne and Donna and one night we dined at the Golden Corral, which has got to be one of the best self serve buffets around, and we were over to their RV spot for lunch. They are well and enjoying the Foothills. The lot they are on is very nice, so much so that they are considering buying it.

The girls have had fun shopping and getting ready for the Rally. Sue and Carolyn have spent some time preparing a basket of goodies to be auctioned at the rally.

Unfortunately, a flu bug has been running through us, first Sue them Gary and currently Rob has it. Hope he is ok to travel tomorrow and Carolyn hopes she has avoided it. It only lasts 24 to 36 hours, so that is not too bad.

Tomorrow, we head to the desert at Quartzite to meet up with the Bluebird Rally. Since we are on the desert we have to fully stocked. To that end the girls got the food we need and Rob and I prepared the rigs. Wish us luck.

Ciao! and Peace.

Yuma Land

We had a great week in Hemet, weather was wonderful, and we got the rigs cleaned in and out. Ours hadn't had a good cleaning for a few months and the run down through the wind and rain didn't help. We made our usual run to the Steer & Stein restaurant and had a great meal there. Friends of Rob and Sue, Greg and Tim, dropped in and we had them for dinner and had a very enjoyable evening. They have lots of stories and our sides were sore from laughter.

The day before leaving Ken and Helen showed up in Hemet, so we got together again. The life of RVer's is like this, we just keep running into each other. Its simply wonderful. The are staying in Hemet a few days and are expecting the Spragues. Hopefully we will see Karen and Rod before the winter is over. Maybe in Quartzite as they will be there a few days ahead of us, well Ken and Rod will be anyway, as Helen and Karen will be at a quilt show in Ontario, Cal.

We made the run from Hemet to Yuma with no difficulties and are now ensconsed in Caravan Oasis in the Foothills area of Yuma. Sue was under the weather, with maybe the flu or something. She is hoping it is 24 hour whatever it is. We will see tomorrow, and we are all keeping our fingers crossed that she is better.

And now you're up to date.

Cheers, Peace.

Hemet, CA

Our 200 mile detour via the coast worked out well, and we made the Golden Palms Resort in Hemet, CA on time, ie: the 8th. The road was twisty, and it was wet & windy but we made good time. Last night was pool and hot tub, and it felt sooooo good. We are now looking at 5 days of sun with highs about 20 and lows 6 Deg. C. We can take a lot of that.

Ciao, Peace.

On the road again.....

We departed with the Robinson's on the 4 pm ferry to Port Angeles. We stayed the first night at 7 Cedar Casino and the second night at the Chehalis WalMart where we stocked up on Food. The crossing was uneventful and so was the shopping. The third night we got to 7 Feathers Casino and RV resort. Great spot, good food, and the campground has its own Pool and Hot Tub.

Unfortunately the mountain passes in Northern California were suffering from winter storms which you know doubt have heard on the news. So it was either wait it out for a possible continuation on Monday or bite the bullet and head for the Coast and go around the mountains. We chose the latter and tonight we are at Harris Beach State Campground. The Kirkwoods have been here a few days so we caught up with them. Helen kindly put her wonderful culinary skills together and made us a lovely dinner. It was wonderful to catch up with all the travelling news. By chance they leave tomorrow for point further south and we will probably catch up with them again before the winter is done, we certainly hope so.

So that's where we are at.

Ciao
