Packing, Facebook, Moving, Movies.
OK I have been spending time on Facebook rather than blogging. That's where I found Charlene, all my Northern Grandkids, Tena, and 6 out of 9 of my Southern Grand kids. There are many current pictures of Mike & Char and the kids on Facebook as well as videos and other stuff. I went to facebook to see what the hoopla is all about and that is where I found everybody. Catherine too is there as is Margot and Joel. Wow. However, I can see what attracts the younger crowd. It can be time consuming and addictive. On the other hand the older bunch can see what the younger ones are up to.
I see Catherine gave up her Calender Kiosk job. From what I read she had much more patience with her boss than I would have. Good for you, there are better places and bosses than that.
We have been spending time helping Noni and John pack and get ready for the big move. It has been very stressful for them, trying to keep working, while packing, thyroid operation, trying to sell the house here, which went down to the wire. It sold today with occupancy on the 15th Nov. They assume the Comox house on Nov 1st so there was a 15 day bridge to accomodate. So it worked out pretty good in the end. Big relief for them. The movers pick up everything on Wednesday and take it up to Comox on Thursday. We are going up Thursday with the Motorhome to help unpack and setup. We should be there through to the weekend, and we will get to see the place.
We had Tony, Ann, Rob and Sue over for Dinner Friday night, Carolyn put on a good spread which we all enjoyed. We went to the Old Spaghetti Factory last night with John and Suzanne. We hadn't been there in awhile and was pleasantly surprised to see that the food is still great and the prices still reasonable. Quite enjoyable.
Rob and I have been on a movie kick. Two per week for the past few weeks. We have seen The Kingdom, Michael Clayton, We own the night, Elizabeth, and Gone Baby Gone, All were good though most Guy movies, however, Elizabeth and Gone Baby Gone were excellent and would be enjoyed by all. I recommend them all.
Well must go, Carolyn is eyeing me, we both have eye appointments in a few minutes, gotta go.
ta ta & Peace.

New Blog for Uncle Lew
Lewis has a new blog "Phyl & Lew" at this link http://lheuchert.blogspot.com . I have amended my links on the right to reflect this new blog. It is good to see he is back in the blogging world and Phyllis is adding her comments too.
He has had some shoulder problems, lymphoma, and the initial test is non-malignant. See his two October blog entries.
Catherine hasn't been blogging as frequently now that she is back in the working world; that is to be expected. How's the new job going?
Now for the rest of you would be bloggers, lets hear some news.

Hide-a-beds, carpets and Rally
Carolyn and I went shopping for Hide-a-beds. One for Mom and one for us. We found a great one at Sears for Mom, good value, meaning good price. It looks like it will do well. It will be delivered on the 24th. We found something we like too, but were informed that it will be on sale next month, and since we weren't in a hurry (we want to re-carpet the spare room first) we can wait. Well next day we found a piece of rug that would do nicely, and the carpet place (Hourigan's)said that they could install it Thursday, so now it is all done. Now we have to wait for the sofa. The room is looking good, just empty of furniture. We do need a TV stand and few other things to finish it off.
Mom's assessment went well Wednesday. She was approved for subsidized housing, so she is now on the list for a subsidized suite in the Cridge. That could be a long wait, but getting on the list in the first place is a big hurdle. She was also approved for bathing assistance, and someone to do her laundry. The Cridge already cleans her suite once a week, so everything is falling nicely into place. She will be assessed for physical abilities and may qualify for a new walker and bath chair, as well. She is quite happy there and with the progress being made.

This week-end was spectacular weather wise, so it was fortunate that we were at a Good Sam Rally, as guests. It was at Chemainus Gardens, a first for us. It is quite a beautiful place, a lovely clubhouse, and grounds. What with the fall colours, bright sunny days, it was a great week-end. Carolyn even won the 50-50 draw, all of $14.00. It was a small rally with 12 rigs. Since it was a Thanksgiving rally, we had, yes, Turkey. The meal was prepared by Tony and Kaes and it was great. I found it different with the girls, moving tables and chairs while the men were in the kitchen, hey it worked.
It was good to get out in our home on wheels, it has been awhile. In a couple of weeks we will take it up to Comox, where we will park at Noni and John's new place and help them unpack.
That's it for me, say goodnight Gary.
Goodnight.
and Peace.

Thanksgiving is here; and Lyn and Noni decided to split up the dinner duties. Chelsea is home and since Noni and John are moving in Nov., Grandma, Carolyn and I are going there for Thanksgiving dinner. Lyn has Adam home, they stopped by from the Ferry Friday night, and of course Rachel, Saul, David, Tena, Megan, Ben and others are going to Lyns. Couldn't manage 20 plus in any one place.
Mom is quite happy in her little place, well not so little. She needs some furniture and so we are looking for a hide-a-bed for her, and ourselves for that matter, since the room she occupied here is totally empty. Soon we will yank out the carpet and put down an new one and refurnish the place.
I am wading through the pictures attempting to winnow them down to a manageable number to create both an online album and CD/DVD. Wish me luck. I'll report on my progress.

Athens, Acropolis, Isle of Capri
After our relaxing day at sea, we got to Athens. Someone described the Acropolis as another pile of rocks, but you got to see it. Our tour took us through Athens and yes there was a lot of rocks at the Acropolis. They were working extensively on it and sorting the rocks, but the someone was right you got to see it. Like all the ruins we have seen they are all steeped in history, but after seeing so many it all starts to blur.
After the Acropolis, we had another day at sea crossing the Med to Naples. This was the only port call that was common to both cruises. This time we took a tour to the Isle of Capri. We had about an hour plus on a passenger ferry to get there. The ride was rough an many were sea sick, however, we managed OK. Once on land we saw, like so many places in Italy, that the city is more vertical than horizontal. We got a bus ride up the hill, many switchbacks, narrow road and sheer cliffs, gave us sheer excitement. Gail and Carolyn went off to a Museum while Mike and I took a chair lift to the top of Capri where we were treated to a 360 degree view of the Island. Very scenic. The ferry back was on a larger vessel and we were on the top outdoor deck, lots of fresh air and a smoother ride.
The following day found us back in Civitavecchia (Rome) and the end of our adventure. From the time we got up on the ship to the time Carolyn and I set foot in the house was 25 hours, a very long and tiring day. For the most part the trip back was better than the trip out, largely due to flying back British Airways, as opposed to Air Canada on the way out. Much more room, better food and service.
It has taken us some time to get over our 9 hour jet lag, in particular Carolyn who had a relapse of the stomach problem she had on the ship, thus the tardiness of this blog. However, we are just about right as rain now. Now that my internal clock has caught up, the next step is to sort through the 850 pictures we took and make up a web album of the journey, that may just take a few days. I'll post that when I'm done.
Mom's move went well in our absence and she is quite happy at the Cridge Senior Centre. We have been catching up with stuff that she kindly held for our return, she had a list, and we have been checking a few of the items off. Our thanks to Lyn, Alan, David, for moving Mom and a particular thanks to Catherine for spending the month looking after Mom, the house and unpacking all Mom's stuff. Mom expressed her gratitude for all the hard work Catherine did. She is a sweetheart, he would be proud.
