Happy Birthday Jack - The BIG 50
Jack hit the big 50 yesterday. Hope you had a great day, too bad we couldn't be there for it and rub it in some. I am sure you were able to celebrate it with your boys. If someone took some pictures send them along.

We celebrated it by going to Margaret and Errol's for dinner. We hadn't seen them for awhile and of course we are leaving soon. Traditionally we get together with them, Sue and John, Sue's Mother and Lewis if he is here, for Christmas Eve dinner. But we won't be here, however, they will carry on without us. We have been making the rounds before we leave. It was good to see them and play "catch up with all the news". Margaret is enjoying this year as vice principal at Wishart school (where just by a quirk of fate David's Megan goes to school). She has an excellent principal to work for, which she hasn't had for awhile and that makes a big difference. Errol is worked off his feet as the Assistant Auditor General of the province, lots of trips away etc. But he is really enjoy the work. High enough up that he can pick what he works on. Excellent dinner of curried chicken with pomegranate and peaches with rice.
We are progressing with getting ready to leave. Carolyn panicing, figuring we should have been ready yesterday and me saying we will be ready by tomorrow. Some things just have to wait til the last minute. I see her wandering around the house sometimes with a glazed look muttering "there must be something I can do!"
On that note I better go find something to do. Ciao!

Happy Thanksgiving US of A
Sounds like Helen and Ken are going to have a feast. Hope you have a wonderful and thankful day.
Hey Jack, are you doing a turkey this year too?
We went to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire last night. It was very good. They sure are getting good with special effects. One of Carolyn's favourite parts was when the Dragon was chasing Potter. They landed on the castle roof and the effects of this dragon crawling around the roof were excellent. The underwater scenes were excellent as well. Highly recommended.
Brunch is being served, smells yummy.

Well we have moved the motorhome back to storage, after having it nearby for a few days. It got washed, vacuumed, and mucho stuff moved in and out. So we are closer to being ready to go on the 5th of Dec. We will bring it back on the 1st of December for the last bit of packing, mostly food, and some more clothing. Also fresh water etc.
Weather has been foggy. Played golf yesterday and it was hard to see those little balls. However, my back was sore and as a result I had a lousy game regardless of the fog. I am getting used to the stocking. We went for our flu shots yesterday and I asked the doctor if it would be all right to also use a knee hi only stocking for short occasions like going to the Gym and golfing, as the thigh part of the long one gets active when I'm active. It slides down. He said sure as long as I wear the long one most of the rest of the time. That is good.
Carolyn had her annual physical yesterday too and she needs some blood work. Her blood pressure is up a bit and so the Doctor wants to do some further checking; otherwise she be pretty healthy.
I see Margot blogged, she seems to having fun volunteering at the Science Centre. Of course at a Science Centre it has got to be fun. Volunteering is good in any event.
I think I'll now volunteer for a nap. Ta-ta.

Happy Days are here again
A very nice Thanksgiving day blessing, Helen. Glad to hear that Keith will not be recalled after all. We share your joy.
Today Carolyn was helping Noni reorganize (straighten out) the clutter in her place. I went along to install more memory in Chelsea's computer. She had been without a computer since hers died many months ago. David was trying to fix it and/or upgrade it but it was not to be. A friend of mine was also looking for an upgrade, what I found was a new HP Compaq, loaded, without monitor for $399.99. You can't upgrade anything for that. So he bought it. Meanwhile I thought it would be good for Chelsea as well so I bought one for her. She was so excited and insisted on paying us back in installments. Well we will let her do that for part of it anyways. They always appreciate more what they buy. It was a bit shy on memory so I installed more today. She really likes it. Bob likes his too. So two people are happy.
Talked to Mom and she enjoyed her birthday celebration with Dennis and Catherine yesterday. She has many cards, well wishes and phone calls. She probably won't see my blog until she gets back to Dennis'. We also kind of celebrated it (with Carolyn's) when we were there, so it has been an on-going celebration. The Lions Manor will have it's monthly birthday party as well where she will be honoured along with other November residents. She is doing well.
Well I have to go and pull my socks (err stocking).

Happy Birthday Mommy
A good picture Dennis took of Me and Mommy. Hope you have a great day.
I finally got fitted for a compression stocking for my left leg. So I'll be wearing that, like, forever. Tricky to get on and off, but with the speacial booty and gloves its manageable.
Well must get over to Noni's, Carolyn is going to help her clean up the clutter. I will be adding more memory to Chelsea's new computer.
Ciao!

Lions, Newsletter rant
Someone famous said: "Putting out the newletter is an onerous task made more difficult when there is little or no help. I reported on the number of newletters I got out this year and the AMOUNT of time it took me and the DEADLINES that were expected. I simply said that without help this group will be looking at a different nesletter editor next year...MAYBE ANYONE OF YOU!"
I agree Dennis. I did my Lions Newsletter, and reported similarily. Of course in my case I'll be away for 3-4 months so asked for a substitute while I am away. As expected No Joy. So they will be without a Newsletter until I get back I guess. I shouldn't be surprised as this has been going on for years.
That's my rant for today, Colbert Report is on, must go.

Vascular Surgeons, Food and VPI
Quite a snowfall you got there in the 'Peg. Sorry to hear about the snowblower, but take it easy with the shovelling, that is heave duty work.
I saw the Vascular surgeon about my varicose veins in my right leg and guess what I got varicose veins in my right leg. And he says I can do nothing and see what happens, wear a super strong stocking all the time or have the veins removed or blasted with laser and still have to wear the stocking anyway, my choice. They really haven't been bothering me other than some swelling in the lower part of the leg. Anyhow, he gave me a prescription for the stocking and I went to get the it and found I needed a bloody appointment for a that too. A fitting for a stocking? And I have to wait a week for that. I started this in July and I'll be lucky to have some resolution before we leave early December. The wait for surgery is 6 months, but covered by medical, the wait for laser is 3 months but I get to pay $5000.00 since the laser procedure is not covered by the province or extended medicare. I am supposed to let him know what I am going to do.
I'll try the stocking for now.
We had a weekend of eating. Friday night we went out with Kathie and Andy Balog to the Old Spaghetti Factory. Great place, enjoyable evening and we found out that a client of Kathie (when she was a travel agent many years ago) was the guy who started the "Old Spaghetti Factory" using train cars as the venue. Saturday night we had David and Tena over for Dinner (sans kids) so it was a good evening catching up with their lives. Sunday we went with John and Sue Hutchins to Tino's Greek restaurant. We hadn't been out with them for awhile and we had a very nice evening. Sunday we had dinner at home and tonight we were at My Chosen Cafe with Kathie and Andy as usual. I went to a luncheon today at the Wardroom.
About 30 of us old Air Force VPI cronies got together, lots of gray hair. VPI is the a Maritime Air International organization with chapters all over the world. The Victoria branch gets together occasionally. Today we gathered to hear from two real legends and characters in the annuls of Maritime aviation. K.O. Moore (85) and Jake Drake (also 85). They both spoke. If I am as spry as either of these two if I even get to 85 I'll be quite happy.
K.O. Moore spoke of his career particularly during the war. He was a captain of a Liberator crew in the second world war. It was the most decorated Maritime aviation crew ever. His crew were credited with 3 U-boat kills, however, what is most impressive of this was that two of the kills occurred on one flight, and they occurred 22 minutes apart. Jake Drake also spoke of his time in the Air Force. He joined the RCAF in 1941 and he was the commanding officer of the first squadron that I flew with, 405 Squadron in Greenwood in 1962. It was really good to see him and hear him relate humorous events that occurred during his career. He always was a good story teller and that hasn't changed. He had us in stitches for most of his talk.
Well must go eat something.

Happy Birthday dear Carolyn Happy Birthday to you.

Despite all the blogs, emails and phone calls to the contrary, yesterday was not Carolyn's birthday, today is. So Helen, your belated email birthday greeting was actually on time. For some reason there always has been some confusion of her birthday, probably has roots in the fact that her Mother's birthday was Nov 8th while Carolyn's was a day later.
Anyhow I'll see that she has a good day and she thanks everyone for their birthday wishes.
Up to yesterday I wasn't sure I wanted to live long enough. Monday I was feeling somewhat achey, but put it down to golfing which I hadn't done for a couple of weeks, however, by evening I knew it wasn't that. Spent a rotten night aching in every part of me and parts I didn't know I had. That went on all day yesterday as well. It broke about 11 pm last night and I had a good sleep and today I am right as rain (applicable term for this part of the country). Now I only hope that I didn't give it to Carolyn as a birthday present. Must have been a 24-48 hour flu.
Sunday, we went to dinner at Lyn's. Had a great supper. Alan is a good cook as he did a large portion of it. They did Halibut and a beef roast done to perfection. It turns out we did meet Juan, though late. He finished work early and got there in time for dessert. Nice young man. Rachel knows how to pick them. They used that dinner to celebrate Carolyn's birthday. Lyn gave her a lovely vest and Rachel gave her a card with her own comments about how much Gramma means to her and how much she loves her, it brought a tear or ten to Carolyn's eye.
Well I think I'll take Carolyn out for a birthday lunch, since she otherwise occupied tonight. More on that later.

West Wing Debate
Yes a great "live" debate, and why is "liberal" a dirty word?
We sure could use some of this kind of real debating in Canadian politics as well.
Way to go West Wing.

No Juan
Well we are still going to dinner at Lyn's but Juan won't be there after all. He forgot he has to work today. He missed thanksgiving because he was sick, well we will meet him sometime or another.
Dennis and Catherine are anxious to make a trip out to the coast this winter, of course we didn't know this until after Lewis had asked to use our house over Christmas. They could have shared the place with him but they need more room what with the likelyhood of Margot and Joel visiting from Vancouver. They can still do New years here since Lewis is returning to Saskatoon on the 27th and our tenants not arriving before Jan 12th.
We did enjoy our trip to Winnipeg, as I said in an earlier blog, Dennis and Catherine are great hosts. Mom doesn't know what she would do without them. We are all so grateful.
I spent some time at the motorhome, running up the generator and stuff, making sure it was dry etc. Must move it closer to home to do some real cleaning inside and out. Joyce has moved her trailer into her back yard so there is more room in her driveway, just have to wait for this damn rain to let up long enough to do it.
Our cruise next June is coming together. We have just booked a one week tour of London and Paris which will occur just after the cruise. We will be away from 5 June to 29 of June 2006 over the two events.
Food is calling, Breakfast (Brunch) is ready. Toodle dooo.

Rain wind and warm pants
Rain rain rain. Wow. and wind too. A large tree came down along Admirals and took out our fence. Many other trees in town as well. Quite a couple of days.
I came home from my Lions meeting the other night got out of my shirt and tie, and put on a nice warm pair of fleece pants, blue ones, nice and warm. Very comfortable with all the weather going on around us. Dennis gave them to me, he got a deal on several pairs at Work Wear World. They will be great around a campfire, if and when I leave the house long enough to have a campfire.
Carolyn thinks she is coming down with a cold. Hopefully not but we will see. Apparently Ginsing is supposed to help, so she taking some of that.
Lyn is having us over for dinner Sunday to meet Juan, Rachel's latest. Looking forward to it.
Jack is in his house and has blogged, check it on the right.

Home Again
We are back home, after a lovely trip to Winnipeg. Good to see everyone. Trip back quite comfy in WestJets newer 737/700 series Boeings.
Got back to a bunch of mail including a "installation" notice from BC Hydro to Occupant 50-850 Parklands, that they would cut off our power if we didn't call before 21 Oct. Since we departed on the 20th and this came after that it was pretty much a useless notice. In any event they didn't cut off our power and when I called them today to see what this was all about I was informed that someone moved and incorrectly used our address and so they cancelled our account. However, he eventually called back with the correct info and all is sorted out. Good thing they didn't cut off the power as indicated. "Oh that letter is computer generated, sorry, it shouldn't have gone out." Crap, they screwed up by not checking properly in the first place.
Good news was in the mail too. We got a check for nearly $1,400.00 from the car insurance for our episode in Prince George when the tow assembly nearly fell off the car. The repair guys suggested that since it was probably the pot holes, that I had encountered, that caused the problem that I should put in an insurance claim. I had my doubts but I did and they paid all but $200.00 deductible. Pleasant surprise I must say.
Well I must go and put it right in the bank. Speaking of money I am acting Treasurer tonight at my Lions meeting. Must go and get ready for that. Ciao.
