Weekend weather turned nice. It was a lovely day Saturday at Mary Hill campground. Just lazed about and finished a book. Steak for dinner, life is good.
Up bright and early Sunday morning. 4:45 am to be precise. The Lion's Society 24 hour relay race at the university started Saturday morning. (All proceeds "for the kids"). Our Lions chapter (South Van Isle) does the pancake breakfast, with proceeds going to "the kids". We start at 5:30 and go till 9:00 am. It adds a few hundred dollars to the thousands that the relay produces. It all goes to Easter seal house and Camps on the Island. Just dropped in the house to shower and change and head back out to Mary Hill.
Must get prepared for Canada Day. Maybe we will have a family thing, BBQ or Picnic or something. Must make some calls.

Sounds like Dennis had a really bad day. Its too bad Mom doens't appreciate you more Dennis. It is easy for me to call her a grand lady as I only have contact by phone and a couple of visits a year, and she is for the most part quite cheery and pleasant. I remember when she wasn't, and it is refreshing to hear her being positive rather than negative. But I guess it would be different if, like you, I had to put up with her all the time. You are to be commended for all that you and Catherine do for her. If she doens't appreciate it, I do.
We had some experience with the elderly; Carolyn's Dad. He was easy enough to get along with, but talk about impatience with the down trodden. His solution was just to "shoot them all". I'm not kidding, that is exactly his words and solution to just about any societal problem. I learned quickly that there was no point arguing with him. Tried years ago and got nowhere and found it wasn't worth the stress it was causing.
Anyhow, hope you have a nice relaxing trip out West and do hope to see you soon.
We have just dropped in the house to check a few things, pick up a few things and head back out. Weather didn't hold, it's been cloudy, but no rain, at least not yet. Think we will have a propane campfire tonight. Campfire ban is on already, too many forest fires, too dry, but the portable propane campfires are OK.

It was announced today the Chelsea would be the recipient of the Spirit of Spencer award, which is awarded for best all round student at Spencer Middle School. This is the second time she has recieved this award, she got it in grade 7. She has graduated from Grade 9 and proceeds to High School, next year. She will receive the award at the award ceremonies on the 28th of June. Congratulations Chelsea, we are proud of you.
Called me Mom today, to thank her for the singing birthday greeting on my answering machine. It was cute and good to see she is still in good spirits at her age to do such things. Grand Lady she is. Got the motorhome back on the road and we will haul it out to Mary Hill for a couple of weeks, through the long weekend. We will be home occasionally to catch up on things, but otherwise we will be out there. Our cell phone will be on. 250-744-7928. Hope to see Dennis and Catherine as they are coming to Vancouver for the Long Weekend. We'll keep our fingers crossed, ouch it is hard to type that way. lol.

Thought for the day
I don't feel old. I don't feel anything until noon. Then it's time for my nap. ~Bob Hope
Had a super Father's day yesterday. Laid around most of the day and watched the US Open. Wow was Shinnecock ever playing hard, so it was as much a battle with the course as it was with each other. Good finish for Retief. (And for Mike Weir who despite shooting 4 over par moved up the standings from 8th to a 4th place finish.)
I had a parade of kids coming by with Father's day and Birthday gifts. Rachel and Adam couldn't come by but they both phoned today with best wishes and Rachel is off for the week and wants to do something with us and Adam and I set up a golf date for after his exams. It was really nice of them to call. Today being my birthday, I golfed with the guys this morning, (aside - the weather has been georgeous, albeit HOT)and came home to some birthday gifts, cake (NOT Jeannies - darn)and we are going to the show tonight to see "the Terminal" with Tom Hanks. It looks like it will be a good movie.
Hope all you Father's out there had a good day.

Just brought Carolyn back from out patient surgery. She has had a lump in the palm of her right hand for some time now, and it was getting bothersome. So her doctor suggested it be removed. And that is what happened this morning. All is fine. The tissure was sent for a culture just as a precautionary. She is home, has to keep the arm elevated for 48 hours and gets the stiches out in 10 days. She was very brave. She is now quickly learning to use the left for all sorts of things she never did before. lol
Well thats all the news that is fit to print.
And the plaintive voice in the night says "Keep on blogging".

I was at my Lions meeting tonight. Good meeting and good meal. The Lions Society of BC have had a money raising project going on for most of the spring. It is called Orca's in the City. They have about 120 preformed fiberglass castings of an Orca calf and have solicited artists to paint them and sponsors to show them, over the summer, in both Vancouver and Victoria. In the fall they will auction them off, with the proceeds going to support Lions of BC projects like Easter Seal camps and houses, etc. The following link explains it more adequately. It includes, some pictures in a gallery, locations of the ones completed (some 40 + in Victoria alone), suggested walking tour and much more. Lion Roger Konkle from South Van Isle Lions, (the one I belong to, of 13 in the Victoria area) has been heavily involved in getting the blank Orcas to the artists and then setting up the completed Orcas in the sponsor's locations. Also, Kristina Boardman is one of the artists and she is the daughter of Basil Boardman, one the guys I golf with weekly. Small town Victoria is. Look for her Orca "Flint" and her site under "current artists". I include a picture of Flint below. Enjoy.

Thought for the day
How is it one careless match can start a forest fire,
but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?
Well we have been busy painting the living room. We have changed it from the cool greens to the warm tans. Two colors, "mission beige" and a darker "clay urn". Sort of "adobe" type tans. Where do they get these names from??? Anyhow, we had a day of stripping some wallpaper and border, Carolyn did the bulk of that, and then two days of painting. 3 walls the lighter of the two colours and the fireplace and one wall of the darker colour. All done now, just the pictures to put up and some minor rearranging of furniture, since we will move the big TV into the living room.
Well I'm pooped. Nite nite.

My goodness, I should talk, haven't blogged for 4 days myself tsk tsk. Well really hasn't been much happening. Weather has been changeable, nice for a day or two then cloudy/rainy for a day or two. Went golfing at Royal Oak, haven't been there for a year. Had a reasonably good game. A 40 on a par 32 nine hole course.
Last week I had taken the Sunfire in for a "recall" repair. The recall had been out a year and involved ball joints, that could cease and cause an accident. So I thought I better get that one done. This Friday I had it back at Dave Wheaton Pontiac, because it didn't feel right ever since last week and the steering started making loud noises that it shouldn't be making. Yep the screwed up the repair, and they re-repaired at no charge. Good thing I had BCAA to tow it in Friday.
Carolyn and I had our annual physicals, and apparently were good for another 12 months or 12,000 kms whichever comes first. She is going in next early next week for minor surgery to have a lump removed from her hand that has been bothering her. She has to be off her Aspirin for a week, and that is bothering her arthritis.
I was at Irene's for a second time this week working on her "old" computer. She is a friend of Kathie Balogh and has had parkinsons for some time. Anyhoo, her computer desparately needed some TLC and security upgrades, especially since she was on high speed, always on connection. All's well now.
By the way, I mentioned that we went to see Harry Potter III, it was great. Didn't include everything in the book, but that would have been an impossiblity anyway. It certainly was true to it and made for a super flick. Three thumbs up.
Well must go, Carolyn is feeding Andy and Chris, since they are bachelors while Kathie is away for a week down to Portland and Spokane, and they will be here soon. Carolyn is giving me the once over, and insists I get out of my grubbies. Nag nag nag. hee hee.

Hey nice trailer pictures Dennis. Looks like a nice setup all round. Should make for some enjoyable summer days.
We had some changeable weather, but somewhat better than forecast. We had two BBQ's, one Saturday and one Sunday. The Saturday one was with the Elks. Friends of ours are Elk members and we joined them for their BBQ. Great steaks, followed, by a DJ and dancing. Sunday was Carolyn's sorority BBQ at Margaret's and Errol's place. Good to see the gang, especially, Brian and Kaye, who are back from England. Also good to see Margaret and Errol, whom we haven't seen since their son's Wedding last year. Great party too. This weekend sure shot the hell out of our diet.
Tomorrow, some golf in the morning and "Harry Potter III" tomorrow evening.
Now to bed. Nighty-night all.

And here is Grandma reading to Ben and some of his classmates. Grandpa was doing the same with 3 other kiddies that didn't have Grandparents visiting. We had tea and cookies as well. Ben was really glad we came.

A picture of a painting by my Great Grandfather Buckley Ousey. We are in correspondence with a chap in England, Robert Winter, who purchased it. Dennis blog has some details. Dennis is also having fun with pictures in his blog including a very young Vivian and Jack Ousey, our Mom and Dad who would have celebrated their 65th on June 3rd, 2004, had he survived. See Dennis blog for more details:
