Thought for the day:
Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
Well the political climate around here is strained what with the HEU strike progressing to a protest, after the provinces heavy handed approach, ordering workers back to the hospitals with an effective 15% roll-back. (11% roll-back with longer working hours). Both sides of this dispute have handled things badly, which is why tempers are riding high. The union should have protested contracting out earlier, and the government shouldn't be rubbing the HEU workers faces in it.
Andy Balogh is caught in the middle. He is essential service so must go through picket lines to work. Very uncomfortable, especially today.
The weather is simply beautiful. Should hit 20+ and the sun is blazing. We will enjoy it while we can because the rains will yet come. We have been way below normal for rainfall for 90 days now, and if we don't get some soon, we will be in for a severe fire season. Also Victoria will impose severe water rationing, instead of our normal rationing. So come on already and rain for awhile, but not the long weekend in May OK.
The spring rally of Vancouver Islanders Chap. of FMCA is set for May 28, 29, & 30. We had our volunteers meeting at Columbos and organized it all and had a good meal to boot. Also saw the movie "Man on Fire" with Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning, what a sweet little actress she is. The two of them made the film although it doesn't seem to be the type of movie that Denzel would normally be in. Anyhow overall quite enjoyable.
Well back to the chores.

Whew, I haven't blogged for awhile. Lewis returned home this Tuesday and seems to have enjoyed his time here. We managed to golf a few times including the morning of the day he departed. The weather had just been beautiful for the whole time including the wedding. Of course it did rain and we got a good wind storm the afternoon of his departure. gusts to 80 KPH. A few branches down etc. Lyn appreciated his attending the wedding as one of the two out of towners to attend, my brother Dennis being the other. Weather has turned gorgeous again and is expected to remain this way for a few days.
Dennis sent me the pictures he took of the wedding so I updated my web site to include not only the official pictures of David Pretty, but included my own and Dennis's. Go to:
The New Barbers
to see them.
Well off to a meeting of the volunteers for the Vancouver Islanders FMCA rally at Sandown Race Track (May 28,29th 30th).

Lyn brought over the official photogs of the wedding today, so I scanned them and placed them on my web site at:
The New Barbers
same location as the one I put out earlier. Anyone wishing a higher resolution one than those on the site, please contact me, guzy@pacificcoast.net.
Much of the weekend was spent, scanning and playing with pictures, burning CD's, going for walks (weather has been great and getting greater). Lewis and I will be golfing one more time tomorrow and he heads home Tuesday.
Noni bought Kathie's Camaro, and she is a happy camper. She has her own wheels again. Watch out Couger in Camaro on the loose. LOL.
On that note, nitey nite.

Dennis departed back to Winnipeg. We had a great visit with him and Lyn sure appreciated him attending the Wedding. Looks like his trip back was good, he is back to blogging.
Noni has discovered that her Saturn problem is a cracked block. $3500 after taxes if she proceeds to get it fixed. She decided to hold off until she could weigh her options. Coincidentally, Andy and Kathie purchased a PT-Cruiser and have put up Kathie's 83 Camaro up for sale. It is in great shape and soon as Noni tried it she wanted it. We know it is in great shape. Andy and Chris would have made sure of that. She will store her Saturn until she can figure out what to do with it.
Apparently, many Saturn owners have had this problem and Saturn has been helping some out with it, even though admitting there is nothing wrong. She is a little riled over that.
Anyhoo. Lewis is here and we went golfing today at Prospect Lake. A beautiful day. Some good golf and great companionship. This afternoon we took the Camaro to Noni's workplace, The Ridge Course at Cordova Bay, for Noni to see. That was the first time for me to see the course. It is a beautiful short 9 hole course, so I must golf it someday. It has lots of fish, stocked with Rainbow trout. She gave us some fish food to feed them. Talk about a feeding frenzy. Lewis wanted catch some of them for dinner. Noni, of course, wouldn't have any of that. She has named them all. LOL.
Gotta Go, Beacon hill soft ice cream is beckoning. mmmmmmmm.

Subject heading changed since we are not currently travelling.
The Wedding was terrific. Lyn looked great in a pale blue suit, and everyone looked fine in their wedding regalia. It was a small wedding with family and Lyn's Adam and Rachel as well as Alan's Ellie and Colin stood up for them. The service was excellent and this was followed by much picture taking and a food spread compliments of Carolyn and Noni.
Since then Dennis, Lewis and myself have been motoring around visiting the touristy places around town. Lewis joined me and my group to golf 9 holes this moring. Today we have had Lyn & Alan visit to say good bye to Uncle Dennis as he leaves for home tomorrow. Lewis is staying another week.
TTFN.

Wedding day, and the pandemonium starts. Lewis and Dennis arrived on Thursday and are comfortably ensconsed. Lewis in the spare bedroom and Dennis in the motorhome. We've been toodling around town taking in some sights up until last night. Noni was over and with the other caterer Carolyn they were preparing goodies for the reception. When it was time to leave we found a puddle of what looked like oil and antifreeze. It turned out to be oil and antifreeze. Her oil migrated into the coolant and her rad was overflowing. There was no oil on the dip stick. So it was not driveable, she was distraught. So today my BCAA has towed her car away to be fixed. got to go and pick up a rental. Hope the rest of the day goes well. Cloudy right now, but no rain.
Best wishes to Lyn and Alan.

I had a few friends who asked where the pictures of the new Rig that I had promised in a previous blog. Well here they are on my web site below:
Gary & Carolyns New Monarch SE, by Monaco
These were all taken the day we bought it. It looks a little more lived in now.
Well the count-down to Lyns wedding is 3 days. She is probably getting excited. Carolyn and Noni are doing all the food catering and Friday evening is when the prepare most of it. They will be kicking out the brothers three for the evening. Speaking of which Dennis and Lewis arrive tomorrow. Lewis at noon and Dennis at 3:50 pm. The excitement builds.
I can't take it, I'm going to bed.

We're back from the Wilds. It was simply put a gorgeous weekend, very unlike last year where we put up with torrential rain and winds, this year was calm, sunny and warm. Reasonable turnout for the cleanup which went quickly since the campground wintered quite well this past year. BBQ was great as well with a turnout of about 60 souls. We were camping with Andy & Kathie along with Al & Rita. We had some good chats around the fire and for Sunday we put together a fanastic Easter dinner. Turkey & ham and all the trimmings. Kathie & Andy's son, Chris, came out for the cleanup and Easter dinner as well. We were joined by Rick a firefighter that works at Nanoose. We also celebrated our anniversary (43rd) on the Thursday and called Chelsea on her birthday on the 9th. Speaking of which she went of to Seattle with friends this weekend and we must find out how it went.
The motorhome performed well travelling as well as camping. There are no services such as electricity, water etc so we got to try out all systems. Great rig and great week end.
Now that we are back we will be getting ready for Lyn's wedding this weekend. The brothers two arrive this Thursday and we are looking forward to that.
Cheerio.

Hi all. We are off on our week away to Nanoose in the new rig. It has gotten much heavier since we bought it. Hmmmmmmm.
Here is a "Wet Coast funny".
You might be from British Columbia if:
1. You know the provincial flower (Mildew)
2. You feel guilty throwing aluminum cans or paper in the trash.
3. Use the statement "sun break" and know what it means.
4. You know more than 10 ways to order coffee.
5. You know more people who own boats than air conditioners.
6. You feel overdressed wearing a suit to a nice restaurant.
7. You stand on a deserted corner in the rain waiting for the "Walk" signal.
8. You consider that if it has no snow, it is not a real mountain.
9. You can taste the difference between Starbucks, Blendz, and Tim Horton's.
10. You know the difference between Chinook, Coho, and Sockeye salmon.
11. You know how to pronounce Squamish, Osoyoos & Nanaimo.
12.You consider swimming an indoor sport.
13. You can tell the difference between Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Thai food.
14. In winter, you go to work in the dark and come home in the dark - while only working eight-hour days.
15. You never go camping without waterproof matches and a poncho.
16. You are not fazed by "Today's forecast: showers followed by rain," and "Tomorrow's forecast: rain followed by showers."
17. You cannot wait for a day with "showers and sun breaks".
18. You have no concept of humidity without precipitation.
19. You know that Dawson Creek is a town, not a TV show.
20. You can point to at least two ski mountains, even if you cannot see through the cloud cover.
21. You notice "the mountain is out" when it is a pretty day and you can actually see it.
22. You put on your shorts when the temperature gets above 5, but still wear your hiking boots and parka.
23. You switch to your sandals when it gets about 10, but keep the socks on.
24. You have actually used your mountain bike on a mountain.
25. You think people who use umbrellas are either wimps or tourists.
26. You recognize the background shots in your favourite movies & TV shows.
27. You buy new sunglasses every year, because you can't find the old ones after such a long time.
28. You measure distance in hours.
29. You often switch from "heat" to "a/c" in your car in the same day.
30. You use a down comforter in the summer.
31. You carry jumper cables in your car and your wife knows how to use them.
32. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit under a raincoat.
33. You know all the important seasons: Almost Winter, Winter, Still Raining
(Spring), Road Construction (Summer) & Raining Again (Fall).
34. You actually understand these jokes and forward them to all your friends in the British Columbia or those who used to live here!
I'll be back on the blog in a week.
Have a Happy Easter all, and have a Happy something or another for all the Humanists out there.

Wow, just caught up with the blogs and realized I hadn't blogged for the whole weekend plus. Not much happenin' spent most of the weekend loading up the new rig. Worse than moving. Trying not to put things back we never used in the last one, etc. Did drop in on Rob's Garage sale and bought some motorhome stuff that we just had to have and we have since loaded. We have seen his new rig. A Wanderlodge diesel pusher. He is now again legal in the diesel club.
He paid more for his 10year old Wanderlodge than we did on our new gassy one. Well Wanderlodges can go for $750,000 new, way out of my league. However, it is in excellent shape and has a cockpit not too dissimilar to a 747. They are happy and are selling the house to go "full time" some time this year or so.
The guys went to see "Ladykillers" tonight. I didn't see the original, which apparently was better with Alec Guiness, but I quite enjoyed Tom Hanks version.
Well we are loaded up and will be leaving for Naniamo tomorrow, for a week over Easter. It is the club's clean up weekend at Nanoose after which we have a big Easter dinner in the great outdoors. The weather has been great and we hope it holds throught the weekend.
Happy Easter all

Well we picked up the new motorhome and are thrilled with it. Hope the euphoria lasts. We drove the old one to Aldergrove and after a lesson on how to operate it we drove it back. Long day considering we had to use the ferry twice. So to bed so we can be fresh and awake to load the tons of stuff we took out of the other one. Maybe we will filter some of it out.
Cheers
